LG began in South Korea in 1958 as GoldStar and has grown into one of the most recognized names in home appliances, found in millions of American homes. The brand is known for innovation that makes daily chores easier: InstaView refrigerators that let you see inside with two knocks on the glass, Craft Ice makers that produce slow-melting round ice, TurboWash 360° washers that clean full loads faster, the stacked WashTower laundry center, and ThinQ smart technology that lets you control and monitor your appliances from your phone.
That innovation is what makes LG appliances so efficient, but it also means repairs require more than basic know-how. Inverter linear compressors, Direct Drive motors, electronic control boards, and self-diagnostic error codes all work together, and pinpointing the real cause of a problem takes hands-on experience with the brand.
Our technicians work on LG refrigerators, ice makers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, and microwaves every day, so they know where these models tend to fail and how to fix them right the first time.
FM Appliance Repair’s Charlotte technicians can diagnose your LG appliance and get it running again, often the same day.

LG Ice Maker Error Code Er IF
An Er IF code means the ice maker fan isn’t spinning at the speed your refrigerator’s control board expects. This small fan pushes cold air across the ice mold, so when it stops, ice production slows down or stops completely. The most common causes are ice built up around the fan blade, a worn fan motor with failing bearings, or a loose wiring connection. You may notice smaller batches of ice, slow Craft Ice production, a freezer running warmer than usual, or a buzzing and clicking sound from the back of the freezer. Unplugging the fridge may clear the code for a few hours or days, but it will keep coming back until the real cause is fixed. Ice around the fan is often a sign of a deeper defrost problem. We clear the ice, test and replace the fan motor if needed, and check the full defrost system so the problem doesn’t return.
LG Dryer Error Code tE1 / tE2
A tE code means your dryer has detected a problem with its heating sensor, called a thermistor, which monitors the temperature inside the drum. When the sensor fails or reads incorrectly, the dryer can’t control its heat properly. Common causes include a failed thermistor, a bad heating element, damaged wiring, or poor airflow from a clogged lint trap or vent. Signs include clothes that come out damp, drying cycles that take far longer than normal, a dryer that runs cold, or one that gets unusually hot on the outside. A restricted vent is also one of the leading causes of dryer fires, so this code should never be ignored. We test the thermistor, heating element, and wiring, replace what’s failed, and inspect your entire vent line to make sure your dryer runs efficiently and safely.
LG Washer Error Code OE
An OE code means your LG washer can’t drain water within the expected time. The most common culprits are a clogged drain pump filter, a kinked or blocked drain hose, a frozen hose in cold weather, or a failed drain pump. You might find standing water left in the drum, clothes that are still soaking wet at the end of the cycle, or a wash that stops partway through. Small items like coins, hair ties, buttons, and baby socks often slip past the drum and end up stuck in the pump, where they can damage the impeller over time. Running the washer repeatedly with this code can burn out the pump motor. We locate the blockage, clear the filter and hose, test the pump, and replace it if needed so your LG washer drains and spins normally again.
LG Dishwasher Error Code AE
An AE code means your dishwasher has detected water in its base pan, where a leak sensor sits to protect your kitchen. Leaks usually come from a worn door gasket, a loose or cracked hose, a faulty water inlet valve, or a damaged sump seal. Too much detergent, or the wrong kind, can also cause foam to overflow into the base. When this code appears, the dishwasher may stop mid-cycle, refuse to start, or keep running the drain pump nonstop to remove the water. Ignoring it can lead to hidden water damage under your cabinets and flooring, including warped wood and mold. We find the exact source of the leak, repair or replace the faulty part, dry out the base completely, and reset the sensor so your dishwasher runs safely again.
LG Refrigerator Error Code Er FF
An Er FF code means the freezer fan isn’t running properly. This fan circulates cold air through both the freezer and fresh food sections, so when it fails, cooling suffers throughout the whole refrigerator. Most often, the fan is blocked by ice that has built up after a defrost system failure, though a worn fan motor or wiring problem can also cause it. You may notice poor cooling, warm spots, frost on the back wall of the freezer, or a clicking or buzzing noise from inside the unit. Left unrepaired, it can spoil food quickly and put extra strain on the linear compressor, which leads to much costlier repairs. We clear the ice, diagnose and fix the defrost problem behind it, and replace the fan motor if needed so your fridge holds a steady, safe temperature.
LG Microwave Error Code SE
An SE code means the control panel has detected a shorted or stuck key. The microwave reads it as a button being held down, so it switches into cancel mode to prevent accidental cooking. This is often caused by moisture or steam getting under the keypad, a worn or damaged membrane keypad, or a faulty control board. The microwave may beep repeatedly, ignore your button presses, act as if buttons are being pressed on their own, or refuse to start at all. Resetting the power may clear the code briefly, but it usually comes back. Because microwaves store dangerous high voltage even when unplugged, internal repairs are never a safe DIY job. Our trained technicians diagnose the keypad and control board, replace the faulty part, and test the unit to make sure it works safely.

LG builds its refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, and microwaves to handle years of daily use. Still, how long an LG appliance actually lasts comes down to how it was installed, how often it runs, and how well it’s cared for along the way.
FM Appliance Repair services LG appliances in homes across Charlotte and surrounding communities in North and South Carolina. A large share of the calls we get start with small issues that are easy to dismiss: a fridge that isn’t quite cold enough, a washer that sounds louder than usual, a dryer that needs an extra cycle, or an error code that comes and goes. Catching these early warning signs often stops a minor fix from turning into a major breakdown.
In this guide, you’ll find simple maintenance habits for each type of LG appliance, the symptoms that point to a developing problem, and how to tell when it’s time to call a professional for LG appliance repair.
No single number applies to every LG appliance. Lifespan depends on how hard the appliance works, the size of your household, local water quality, airflow around the unit, installation quality, maintenance habits, and natural wear on parts over time.
In general, major appliances that receive regular care stay reliable for many years. Refrigerators often keep running well past the ten-year mark, while washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, and microwaves vary more depending on daily use.
Age alone shouldn’t decide whether you repair or replace. Ask yourself a few questions instead:
How often does the problem happen?
Is the appliance still running efficiently, or have your energy bills crept up?
Has the same part failed more than once?
Can replacement parts still be sourced for your model?
Is the repair price reasonable compared with buying new?
Are several unrelated problems showing up at once?
A technician who works on LG appliances regularly can walk you through these questions and give you an honest recommendation on whether a repair is the smarter choice.
Your LG refrigerator never takes a break. It runs around the clock, every day of the year, which makes routine care one of the best ways to protect it.
LG sets its refrigerators to 37°F for the fresh food section and 0°F for the freezer by default, and recommends keeping them there for most households. These settings keep food fresh and safe while letting the cooling system, including LG’s linear compressor, run at a normal, steady pace.
Keep your refrigerator running at its best with these habits:
Leave the air vents inside both compartments uncovered so cold air can move freely.
Don’t stack food tightly against the back wall.
Give the refrigerator enough clearance on the sides, top, and back to release heat.
Inspect the door seals for dirt, cracks, or gaps, and wipe them clean regularly.
Replace the water filter about every six months, or when the filter indicator lights up. LG recommends using genuine LG filters.
Vacuum dust from the condenser coils and the area around the unit.
Close the doors promptly, especially on InstaView models where a knock on the glass lets you look inside without opening the door.
Overfilling the refrigerator can block airflow and lead to warm spots, so try to leave some space between items.
Reach out to a technician if you notice any of the following:
The refrigerator section isn’t staying cold
The freezer isn’t keeping food frozen
Frost or ice building up on the freezer’s back wall
Water pooling inside the unit or on the floor
The ice maker producing little or no ice
The compressor running nonstop
Buzzing, clicking, grinding, or loud fan noises
Food freezing in the fresh food section
Temperatures swinging up and down without explanation
Error codes like Er IF, Er FF, or Er dH that keep coming back
Unplugging the refrigerator may clear a code for a short time, but if it returns, the actual fault is still there. Rather than repeatedly resetting the unit or defrosting it by hand, schedule professional LG refrigerator repair so the root cause gets fixed.
A little regular maintenance helps your LG washer stay fresh-smelling, drain properly, and avoid extra wear on the pump, motor, and other parts.
Run the Tub Clean cycle about once a month, or whenever your washer shows a reminder to do so. LG also recommends cleaning the drain pump filter on front-load models at least once a month, and more often if your household does a lot of laundry.
To keep your washer performing well:
Use HE detergent if your model calls for it.
Measure detergent carefully, since too much leaves residue and causes suds problems.
Don’t overstuff the drum.
Move wet clothes to the dryer as soon as the cycle ends.
Leave the door or lid open between loads so the drum can air out.
Pull the detergent dispenser out slightly so it can dry.
Wipe the front-load door gasket, including underneath the folds, where moisture and lint collect.
Clean the drain pump filter regularly.
Run Tub Clean as recommended.
Empty pockets before washing so coins, keys, and hair ties don’t end up in the drain pump.
Have a technician inspect your washer if it:
Doesn’t drain
Doesn’t spin
Shakes violently or walks across the floor
Stops partway through a cycle
Leaks water
Makes banging, grinding, or scraping noises
Leaves clothes dripping wet
Shows recurring codes such as OE, UE, or LE
Keeps a musty smell even after cleaning
A dirty filter can cause some drain and spin issues, but problems that keep returning often trace back to the drain pump, shock absorbers, Direct Drive motor, door lock, control board, or sensors.
If the problem persists, contact FM Appliance Repair for a full diagnosis.
Caring for your dryer protects both its performance and your home’s safety.
Empty the lint filter after every load, and check the vent line from time to time for blockages. A partly clogged vent makes the dryer work harder and longer, wearing out parts and wasting energy.
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, failure to clean was the leading factor contributing to ignition in 31% of home clothes dryer fires between 2018 and 2020.
To keep drying times short and your dryer running safely:
Clean the lint screen after every single load.
Sweep up lint around and behind the dryer.
Check that air flows strongly from the outside vent while the dryer runs.
Have long or heavily used vent lines professionally cleaned on a regular basis.
Avoid packing the drum too full.
Don’t keep adding cycles when clothes suddenly start taking longer to dry; that’s a warning sign.
Make sure the vent hose behind the dryer isn’t crushed or kinked.
On models with a Flow Sense indicator, pay attention when it warns of a restricted vent.
Schedule service if your dryer:
Needs two or more cycles to dry a load
Tumbles but doesn’t heat
Gets unusually hot
Shuts off without warning
Squeals, scrapes, or thumps
Gives off a burning smell
Displays recurring codes such as tE1, tE2, or d80
Pushes only weak airflow out the exterior vent
Longer drying times are never something to ignore. The cause may be restricted airflow, a heating element, a thermistor or thermostat, worn rollers, the drive motor, or another component.

Most dishwasher performance problems come from trapped food debris, dirty filters, slow drainage, hard water buildup, or blocked spray arms.
For cleaner dishes and fewer problems:
Remove and rinse the filter regularly.
Clear food scraps and debris from the bottom of the tub.
Check that the spray arm holes, including those on QuadWash models, aren’t clogged.
Load dishes so nothing blocks the spray arms from turning.
Run the kitchen faucet until the water is hot before starting a cycle.
Use detergent made specifically for automatic dishwashers.
Wipe the door gasket from time to time to remove buildup.
Call for service if you notice:
Water left standing in the bottom after a cycle
Leaks around the door or under the unit
Dishes coming out dirty or gritty
The dishwasher not filling with water
The cycle stopping before it finishes
Grinding or loud humming sounds
A bad smell that cleaning doesn’t fix
Error codes like AE, OE, or IE that come back after restarting
These symptoms can point to the drain pump, water inlet valve, wash motor, sensors, seals, wiring, or control board.
LG ranges and ovens rely on heating elements or gas burners, temperature sensors, igniters, convection fans, electronic controls, and safety components working together. Keeping your cooktop and oven clean helps prevent grease and food buildup from interfering with them.
Clean up spills once the oven has cooled down.
Keep burner heads, ports, and the cooktop surface clean.
Never cover oven vents with foil.
Don’t line the oven floor with foil unless your owner’s manual allows it.
Use EasyClean or Self Clean only as directed for your specific model.
Never ignore burning or electrical smells, or visible sparks.
You may need professional service if:
The oven won’t heat
Food cooks unevenly or temperatures seem off
A burner won’t light or won’t heat
Preheating takes much longer than it used to
The convection fan is noisy
The display or touch controls stop responding
The circuit breaker keeps tripping
Error codes keep returning

LG microwaves don’t need much routine maintenance, but a clean interior goes a long way.
Grease and food splatter can absorb microwave energy, cause odors, and even lead to sparking inside the cavity.
Wipe splatters from the interior after cooking.
Keep the waveguide cover clean and replace it if it’s damaged.
Never run the microwave with nothing inside.
Use only microwave-safe dishes.
Keep metal out unless the manufacturer specifically allows it.
On over-the-range models, clean the grease filters as your owner’s manual directs.
Wipe up steam and moisture around the keypad to help prevent SE errors.
Contact a professional if your microwave:
Sparks again and again
Runs but doesn’t heat food
Buzzes or makes unusual electrical sounds
Shuts off in the middle of cooking
Has a damaged door, hinge, or latch
Trips the circuit breaker
Gives off a burning smell that won’t go away
Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can hold a dangerous charge even after they’re unplugged. For that reason, any repair inside the microwave should be handled by a trained professional.
We check your LG’s error code, test the related parts, and find exactly what broke.

A reset can clear a code temporarily, but if the code comes back, the underlying problem hasn’t been fixed. Codes like Er IF, Er FF, OE, or tE1 usually point to a specific part that needs attention. Repeated resets can sometimes let a small issue grow into a bigger one, so it’s best to have a technician diagnose it.
The cost depends on the appliance, the problem, and the part needed. After diagnosing your appliance, your technician gives you a written quote before any work begins. If you decide to go ahead with the repair, the diagnostic fee is applied toward the final cost.
In many cases, repair is the more affordable choice, especially for refrigerators and washers that are otherwise in good shape. Our technicians look at the appliance’s age, condition, repair history, and part availability, then give you an honest recommendation, even if that means telling you replacement makes more sense.
